Booking Your Flights to Go on Holiday

Booking flights is one of the most difficult parts of your holiday. It can be a minefield – unexpected costs, extortionate prices, a lack of decent seating… Flying is never going to be one of the greatest pleasures in the world, but here are some top tips to help make your experience as enjoyable as possible:

  • Book your flight as early as possible. This will give you the maximum amount of choice. Airlines compete with one another so you will be able to choose the ones with the lowest prices and put that extra money towards your holiday.
  • If you’re concerned that extortionate prices might ruin your holiday, don’t pay extra to book your seats. You will be automatically allocated a seat if you choose not to pay, so take this option instead. If you check in with your travel companions, chances are you’ll be allocated seats together anyway.
  • Try to choose seats by an emergency exit. This will give you extra leg room, though it might cost a little bit more.
  • Buy food in the airport and take it with you. As long as you purchase it after you’ve been through security, it won’t pose any problems. This way, you won’t have to buy extortionate aeroplane food or go hungry.
  • Take sweets. If your ears pop during landing, sucking a sweet can help to relieve the pressure in your sinuses.
  • Pack some flight socks for longer journeys. Whilst they may not be as comfortable as your normal socks, they are very important and can help to prevent serious medical conditions like thrombosis.
